The Cornucopia of Fall!
Visit Hawthorn Hollow this fall for an extraordinary journey full of adventures and discoveries. This program focuses on the different ways plants grow through life stages and survive to produce new offspring. Students will make discoveries on seed dispersal strategies and the concept that fruit is a seed container. Visitors will classify seeds collected from a forest and a field. The program includes Native American traditions and celebration of the fall season. Students will visit a real Indian trail and make a traditional folklore toy to bring home. This program will also present the lore of Johnny Appleseed. Participants will then have a hands-on learning experience making apple cider using a traditional apple press. Dates: October - November 2012.
It’s Maple Sugarin’ Time!
Come join us as we tap our sugar bush during the month of March. Visitors will take a journey back in time and discover the magic of maple sugaring. The Sugar Maple and history of maple sugaring is an important part of Wisconsin’s heritage. Participants will experience through hands-on activities the arts and traditions of tapping a maple tree. The visit provides students with history of Native American traditions and techniques for capturing, collecting and cooking of maple syrup. Students will sample 100% pure maple syrup and will make their very own sumac spile to take home. Dates: March 2013.
Spring Discovery!
Hawthorn Hollow is the place to be for spring discovery! Your visit will include learning about and uncovering the systems and cycles on which all living and non-living things depend on. Students will explore the diversity of nature through a unique variety of hands-on activities. Discovery activities will help students uncover the importance of structural, functional and behavioral adaptations in plants and animals. A variety of exploratory and sensory experiences will be utilized. Students will visit a Native American trail and wigwam. The visit will include Native American traditions, and making a folklore toy. Dates: May 2013.

Fieldtrip Details
Our programs are geared towards the K-5 grades and link with Wisconsin State Standards. These are 2-hour outdoor programs. Please be sure participants are dressed and prepared for outdoor activities. Each class size is limited to 10 - 30 students. We offer morning and afternoon sessions, Tuesdays - Fridays.

We offer a customized two-hour program to help your scouts meet the requirements of their nature-related merit badges. $5 per scout with a $50.00 minimum.
