It’s Maple Sugarin’ time at Hawthorn Hollow!
Come join us as we tap our sugar bush during the month of March. Visitors will take a journey back in time and discover the magic of maple sugaring. The Sugar Maple and history of maple sugaring is an important part of Wisconsin’s heritage.
Participants will experience through hands-on activities the arts and traditions of tapping a maple tree. The visit provides students with history of Native American traditions and techniques for capturing, collecting and cooking of maple syrup. These are adult and family classes.
This is a 2 hour outdoor program. Dress for the weather! Wear warm coats, hats, mittens, and boots if there is snow on the ground.

Bat-Roost Monitoring Workshop
Thursday, May 9th 2013, 6-9pm
Hawthorn Hollow received a Citizen-based Monitoring Partnership Program grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to expand bat monitoring in Southeastern Wisconsin.
White-nose Syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease that fatally affects bats during their hibernation season, is getting closer to Wisconsin. This disease has been spreading out from New York State, where it was first discovered in 2006. WNS has been 100% fatal in some hibernacula, with bat death toll reaching more than 5.5 million in the U.S.
Short-term monitoring can help provide a baseline for the number and species of bats inhabiting areas. Long-term monitoring can help track the unfortunate decline of bat species as WNS spreads into this area.
We will be offering three bat house building workshops this October and a bat-roost monitoring workshop during May 2013. Members $35/Non-members $40. Registration is required.
