Schoolhouse Program

HKids in school_Snapseedawthorn Hollow is happy to collaborate with the Kenosha History Center to bring the One-Room School House Program to Kenosha 3rd grade classes during the spring and fall. The program is an excellent way to teach history with a participatory approach.

The Program takes students through a re-enactment of what a typical day would have been like in the 1906 Pike River School. A period dressed teacher guides the students through a reading class using McGuffey’s Reader, an arithmetic class using lap slates, and penmanship lesson using dip pens and bottle ink, a 1906 social studies class and an old fashioned spelling bee. Students and classroom teachers are encouraged to come dressed in period clothing.

The response to this program has been overwhelming and space is limited.

If you are a teacher and interested please contact The Kenosha History Center.
